Help Us Build More Eco Homes
To date St. Maarten is still dealing with the aftermath of the category 5 hurricane Irma of 6 September 2017. Evidently there are many damaged homes showing still life portraits of the impact Irma had on this beautiful island. However a selection of homes is being repaired with the help of government, but at a very slow pace. A matter of fact many locals are still sheltered either at families or a friends’ homes or at a shelter for their homes are too damaged to live in. It is also sad to learn that there are elderly people who lived on their own have passed before they received help with their damage homes.
National safety is paramount to us. To anticipate a pending natural disaster we deem it crucial to create hurricane challenged housing in St. Maarten. Within the framework of being resilient and self-sufficient living we have designed an eco-village concept to accommodate a Tiny House a.k.a. Green community. At this location future residents will be living in self-sufficient tiny houses built to withstand the Sint Maarten climate and its nature’s perils for this island lies in the hurricane belt. A selection of special designed tiny houses are sustainable built to be hurricane and earthquake challenged and fire resistant. The tiny homes are approximately 15 m² – 44 m² (161 ft² – 473 ft²) in size. All are creatively and resourceful designed to maximize space and light and provides own renewable energy sources (e.g. electricity, biogas). All homes will be hooked up to a waste-management and waste-water management system. In turn all homes will be connected to surrounding landscaped gardens providing this little community own home-grown vegetables, herbs, flowers and various fruit.

One of the special designs we are looking to raise funds for is the Eco-Z One.
This Eco Home is constructed out of two 20 foot containers (surface 29.5m2 / 320 sq.ft), the ideal size for sporting a studio with separate bedroom that accommodates 2 persons max. The Eco-Z One like its name is shaped in a “Z”. It has a bedroom, a bathroom, separate utility-washroom with washing machine connection. The dual living/kitchen area can be equipped with a murphy bed (pull down bed system) for occasional sleepovers. And it can be designed as Off-Grid meaning supplying your own electricity and hot water via solar, recycling “grey” water to reduce your utility bills and a lot more!
Eco Homes are constructed by HoomSteet – see also HoomStreets Facebook page.
It is our aim to build the first few Eco-Z One homes for locals to be safe and sound during and after hurricane seasons. Help us raise funds to create this green community in The Keys village, Upper Prince’s Quarter, in Sint Maarten Dutch West Indies.
When you donate, you will be invited to experience the construction of this Green Community location. If you have a few hours to spare perhaps you can help us with the landscaping and or gardening at this location. Those who have given a high donation receives the reciprocity to give the Eco House a try by staying a few days in it before its allocated to a new resident.
