Sustainability and Energy Transition

2030, 2035 and 2050 are now the target years to realize the energy transition to a large extent within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Both the Netherlands and the Dutch Caribbean, better known as the CAS islands – Curaçao, Aruba, Sint Maarten and BES islands, or special municipalities – Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba, are subject to sustainability.

Due to the 2019 climate agreement government organizations within the Kingdom of the Netherlands are obliged to take sustainability measures to make country, island, province, municipality, city, village, neighbourhood, district and street carbon neutral.In the role of Director of Sustainability and Energy Transition within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Marlin Yard Foundation is driven to bring parties together to save energy and accelerate the transition. Within the framework of the current possibilities, we help to apply alternative solutions regarding sustainable energy generation, storage, and cooling systems. We support government agencies in working together with housing corporations, citizens, network operators and utility companies on a transparent approach to becoming carbon neutral.

As acting director, we support government organizations with our expertise. We organize an integrated approach to realize the optimal technical and economic solution within the private and public sectors and the financial frameworks of government organizations. By informing stakeholders at the right times, grants can be applied for that supports sustainability and the energy transition. By focusing on participation, citizens are involved when possible and necessary, so that the chance of success of the transition process increases. In the case of successful transition projects, management is therefore returned to government organisations.

Sustainability in Dutch Caribbean

In the context of self-reliance, Marlin Yard Foundation seeks partnership to help accelerate the energy transition on the Dutch Caribbean islands. The major challenges are known in the field of climate mitigation, adaptation and making the energy supply more sustainable. The autonomous countries of Curaçao, Aruba and Sint Maarten (CAS) and the three public bodies within the Kingdom of Netherlands better known as the special municipalities – Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba (BES) are each unique and different, but they have to deal with similar climate and energy issues. This involves making electricity production more sustainable, sustainable forms of cooling buildings, a safe drinking water supply and more independent food production. A good approach to these issues is not only in the interest of the climate, but also offers opportunities to increase the quality of life, reduce the costs of utilities and make the economies greener.

Every island, village, neighbourhood and street are unique and therefore has different needs. We know from experience what success indicators are. Together with you as a client, we can shape our services, so that you are assured of an approach that is precisely tailored to the needs of your target group. In concrete terms, we offer the following services to help you achieve the climate goals.

Services

Fighting energy poverty – we are happy to help you lower your energy bill. We do this by making participants more aware of their energy consumption behaviour and assist with applying energy saving solutions.

Energy scans – through the energy scan we give consumers, companies and organizations insight into how they can be more aware of their energy consumption. Advice is given on the measures that can be taken. In addition, we guide participants in implementing this advice. Guidance is important for accelerating the energy transition. For example, we help you to request and compare quotes, apply for grants and we look at various financing options together with you.

Energy-saving for organizations and companies – In order to reduce CO2 emissions, it is important to take energy-saving measures. By using the Recognized List of Measures for Energy Saving (EML – rvo.nl), recognized measures that apply to you are mapped out. We are happy to guide you towards more energy efficient consumption. Our aim is the organizations and companies that have been visited and have started the one-year guidance process, the energy consumption of which has been drastically reduced and the investment will be recouped within the foreseeable future.

Grants for sustainability – The application of energy-saving measures often results in major cost savings. But sometimes an investment will have to be made first. In some cases, it involves a change in behaviour or just a small investment amount, but the investment costs can also be higher. If you are a resident on a CAS or BES island, you are eligible for grants that stimulate sustainability. Unfortunately, applying for grants is often a complicated and time-consuming task. Thanks to our expertise in this area, we can help you with this.

ENG: Energy Investment Allowance – EIA

Do you want to gain tax benefits for your company? With the Energy Investment Allowance (EIA) you pay less tax when you invest in energy-efficient technologies and sustainable energy. The average tax reduction is 11%. And your investment lowers the energy bill.

ENG: Corporate Financing Guarantee – GO

Do you need credit? Do you find it challenging to get a loan or guarantee from a bank? The government can help you with the Corporate Financing Guarantee (GO). This type of finance gives your bank a state guarantee of 50% on medium-sized and large loans. Also, the guarantee reduces the risk for the bank. GO allows credit flows to continue and keeps entrepreneurs in business.

NL: Garantie Ondernemingsfinanciering (GO)

Heeft u krediet nodig maar krijgt u niet eenvoudig een banklening of bankgarantie? De overheid maakt dit makkelijker met de Garantie Ondernemingsfinanciering (GO). Uw bank kan zo een 50% Staatsgarantie krijgen op middelgrote en grote leningen en verkleint daarmee haar risico. De Garantie Ondernemingsfinanciering houdt kredietstromen op gang opdat ondernemers kunnen blijven ondernemen.

De GO-regeling is voor ondernemers die krediet nodig hebben. Het biedt bedrijven de mogelijkheid om financiering voor elkaar te krijgen die anders niet mogelijk was geweest. De regeling is voor (middel)grote ondernemingen met substantiële activiteiten in Nederland en voor ondernemers in Bonaire, Sint Eustatius of Saba.

Heeft u als ondernemer risicodragend vermogen nodig? Bijvoorbeeld door snelle groei, een bedrijfsovername, een buy out, expansie in het buitenland of een reorganisatie? Met de regeling Groeifaciliteit krijgt uw financier garanties op achtergestelde leningen en op aandelen van participatiemaatschappijen. Zo trekt de overheid financiers over de streep om bedrijven te helpen.

LIFE is a European grant program that contributes to the realization of European environmental, energy and climate policy, such as the European Green Deal.

LIFE projects

LIFE grants to projects that further develop or put into practice European policy on one of the following subjects:

  • Nature and biodiversity
  • Circular economy and quality of life
  • Climate mitigation and adaptation
  • Renewable energy transition

A lot is possible under LIFE. Think of a LIFE project that contributes to the reduction of noise nuisance, the more efficient use of raw materials or the promotion of biodiversity. The diversity of the project possibilities also sometimes makes it difficult to determine whether your project fits within LIFE and if so, under which sub-programme your project idea falls, or what type of project it concerns. In addition, you must structure your grant application logically and provide a clear substantiation of the impact.

We help and advise you, so that your application is of high quality, and you have the best chance of receiving a grant. You should therefore contact us during the first idea development: you don’t have to wait for an open call.

Any organization in the European Union (EU) can apply for a LIFE grant, such as:

LIFE projecten

LIFE geeft subsidie aan projecten die het Europese beleid op één van de volgende onderwerpen verder ontwikkelen of in de praktijk brengen:

  • Hernieuwbare energietransitie

Er kan veel onder LIFE. Denk aan een LIFE-project dat bijdraagt aan het verminderen van geluidsoverlast, het efficiënter gebruik van grondstoffen of het bevorderen van de biodiversiteit. De diversiteit van de projectmogelijkheden maakt het soms ook moeilijk te bepalen of uw project past binnen LIFE en zo ja, onder welk deelprogramma uw projectidee valt, of om welk type project het gaat. Daarnaast moet u uw subsidieaanvraag logisch opbouwen en een duidelijke onderbouwing van de impact geven.

Wij helpen en adviseren u, zodat uw aanvraag kwalitatief sterk is en u de meeste kans maakt op subsidie. Neem dan ook vooral al bij de eerste idee-ontwikkeling contact op met ons: wachten op een openstaande call hoeft niet.

Are you an entrepreneur and do you want to benefit from a tax scheme for investing in environmentally friendly technology? You may be eligible for the Environmental investment deduction (MIA) and Arbitrary depreciation of environmental investments (Vamil) schemes. Through MIA, you can deduct up to 45% of the investment costs for an environmentally friendly investment on top of your regular investment tax deductions. With Vamil, you can decide when to write off 75% of your investment costs. This gives you an advantage in liquidity and interest.

Bent u ondernemer en wilt u fiscaal voordelig investeren in milieuvriendelijke bedrijfsmiddelen en technieken? Dat kan met de Milieu-investeringsaftrek (MIA) en de Willekeurige afschrijving milieu-investeringen (Vamil). Met de MIA profiteert u van een investeringsaftrek die kan oplopen tot 45% van het investeringsbedrag. Die aftrek komt bovenop uw gebruikelijke investeringsaftrek. Met de Vamil kunt u 75% van de investeringskosten afschrijven. Dat kan op een tijdstip dat u zelf bepaalt. Dit levert u een liquiditeits- en rentevoordeel op.

Green banks and green funds can apply for a green statement with the Green Projects Regulation. With such a green statement, they can finance their customers’ sustainable projects at a lower interest rate.

Do you want to design, produce or organize a circular product, process or service together with other entrepreneurs? And do you want help from an experienced process supervisor? The Circular Chain Projects subsidy can support you in this. The subsidy is mainly for SMEs. A large enterprise may also participate in each project.

Wilt u samen met andere ondernemers een product, proces of dienst circulair ontwerpen, produceren of organiseren? En wilt u daarvoor hulp van een ervaren procesbegeleider? De subsidie Circulaire ketenprojecten kan u daarbij ondersteunen. De subsidie is er vooral voor mkb-ondernemers. Per project mag ook een grote onderneming meedoen.
