Cultivating a Greener Future Together, Support Our Community Garden Project in Sint Maarten

We’re reaching out with exciting news about a project close to our hearts – the establishment of a Community Garden right here in Sint Maarten. We believe in the power of community, sustainability, and the transformative impact of growing our own food.

Our Vision

Imagine a vibrant space where neighbors come together to cultivate fresh, organic produce – a Community Garden that not only beautifies our surroundings but also fosters a sense of unity, promotes healthy living, and provides educational opportunities for all ages.

Stichting Marlin Yard (foundation) mission is to stimulate the resilience and self-reliance of mainly island residents in the Kingdom of the Netherlands; something that is urgently needed after experiencing the hurricanes in 2017 and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Our aim is to strengthen communities by building, encouraging, executing and supporting farms and community gardens where every person in Sint Maarten can grow healthy food in their neighbourhood and districts.

Join our mission to create a sustainable and resilient agricultural economy on Sint Maartenon DWI by establishing more agricultural initiatives such as CSA – Community Supported Agriculture and Greenhouse horticulture and Community Gardens.

Problems Worth Solving

Sint Maarten is still rebuilding and recovering from the devastating impacts of hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. On top of this, COVID-19 is having a severe economic impact on the local economy and community. Due to the crisis, the supply of fresh food has become insecure. To reduce dependence on food imports in the future, large-scale agriculture is necessary to make Sint Maarten less vulnerable and more self-sufficient. Sint Maarten urgently need a sustainable and resilient agricultural economy. Besides the problem of securing food, the people of Sint Maarten want and need vegetables and related food with good taste and high nutritional quality. Most people consume an unhealthy national diet which causes a huge problem of obesity and diabetes.

Our Solution

Stichting Marlin Yard is working on creating food security on St. Maarten which helps reduce import costs, encourages Sint Maarteners to eat island grown food, and contribute to a healthier diet which in turn can help turn around obesity and diabetes problems.
