Food Farm Gardens Association
Food Farm Gardens (FFGA) is an association that enables an allotment park in The Keys and aims to realize more allotment parks throughout the districts of St. Maarten.
Food Farm Gardens partners with community gardens in St. Maarten and aims to take care of the business side of gardening and give you more time to get dirty in the garden! We also offer gardening advice and workshops. Our gardens include:
- Reinstating a 17th centry platation site combined with traditional community gardens where people rent a plot to grow their own fresh produce.
- Educational gardens where we teach gardening, landscaping, nutrition and cooking.
- Urban farms where volunteers grow vegetables for local markets and people in need.
Mission & Vision
Our mission is to strengthen communities by building and supporting community gardens where every person in St. Maarten can grow healthy food in their neighbourhood.
We envision a garden network for St. Maarten where people of all ages and backgrounds live healthy, active lives in a clean environment by growing fresh food.
This network fosters the meeting of people from diverse backgrounds to share experience and knowledge, promote urban agriculture and economic justice, provide leadership and job training, and grow more beautiful and sustainable communities.
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
This option is for those who doesn’t want / can’t do the hard work of cultivating food. We will do the work for you and in return you can subscribe (membership) to receive a certain amount of pounds/ kilo’s of fresh produce, fish or crustaceans on a weekly or bi-weekly basis at home or at your business directly from our gardens at cheaper prices compared to what is asked for when doing your groceries.
Not only does FFGA manage Community Gardens but offers community organizing assistance, and aims to serve more than 5000 families in due time on St. Maarten.
To apply for an allotment one has to become a member of the FFGA. More information on how to do this can be done at this link: Food Farm Gardens – Marlin Yard Foundation
